Description
The AutoCoater™ is used to restore the primary coating on spliced optical fibers with acrylate coating. The emphasis is on high productivity, low cost per recoating and operator independence in factory environments. The AutoCoater™ is designed for high-strength applications.
The mould can be exchanged in seconds – no alignment is required after exchanging the mould. The fiber is automatically centered when inserted into the mould. Moulds are available in different sizes to cover a range of coating diameters and can also be made to customer specification. The mould can typically be used more than 70 times.*
A specially designed halogen lamp is used as a UV light source. The lamp scans the portion to be cured. The typical curing time is 15 to 60 s, depending on the resin properties and the length and diameter of the recoated part.
The automatic tensile strength tester can generate forces of up to 20 N. The level of strength, pulling rate and time at the maximum force can all be programmed.
The linear clamps are carefully designed in order not to flatten the primary coating. Two clamping forces are used. The high force will only be applied during the tensile strength test. The standard clamp is designed for coating diameters of 250 to 400 μm. Changing the recoating diameter within this range requires no adjustments other than program change.
